This time of year, we are beginning to plan our Thanksgiving menus, prepare for Christmas vacations and also making strides and reflecting on opportunities to see where 2013 has taken us, and what this year has provided for our lives and our marriages. One of our favorite suggestions to married couples during this time, is to take a moment of reflection and check the “temperature” of where your marital survival rate. This is a time to reflect on what worked, what didn’t and where you both can seek God together for your marital longevity. One of our favorite books of the bible is Habakkuk.
(Habakkuk 2:2-3 KJV) 2And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.3For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry
In this scripture Habakkuk is seeking God for instruction and Vision for what he wants him to do. In this moment God directs him to write the vision. Seek it, feel it out and allow the Vision to take over your mind, heart and soul. Habakkuk, like us, are seeking vision from God. Your difference is that you are seeking it together in Marriage. God designed your marriage for a great purpose. Like any business plan, or personal goals, your marriage deserves a vision and a plan. Take your Finances, your Family and your Intimacy and together, write a Vision for your Marriage. Take a moment in prayer, and together grab some paper or a poster board and write down your expectations of your Marital vision, God at the center of it all makes for the Perfect Plan!
This is not an unusual request, nor is it time consuming. You and your spouse are basically making a Vision Board for your marriage! How cool is that! The common denominator for this exercise is God’s direction and not your own. Both of you have been trying it your way for years, our prayer is that this will give you a new way of ideas to work together and start in a new direction, trusting God to speak through your marriage, and to you both as Husband and Wife and tell us exactly what His expectations and visions are for our covenant vows.
Write the Vision and Make it plain!
